Chelsea-Anne Salter     (She/Her)

Born in Surrey in 1999 and commutes and studies in Farnham, UK, and a proud cat mother of one, Lyric, Chelsea-Anne enjoys experimenting with narrative and storytelling throughout her artwork. In her free time, Chelsea-Anne enjoys photography, gaming, and language learning.

Chelsea-Anne enjoys exploring language and wordplay through creative writing and spoken word. Influenced by the media, literature, and fantasy, her practice focuses on themes of identity, language, the feminine experience, autonomy, and the confessional often influenced by her own experiences. Her work is multidisciplinary stretching from painting, to drawing, to video, digital collage, and written word.  She is also interested in highlighting sections of taboos within society, for example, that of sexual freedom, and kink being an essential part of self-freedom and sex positivity. She believes that sexuality and self-pleasure is a cornerstone to discovering oneself. This is often coupled with the fear of the unknown and preconceived views of the misunderstood. Her intention is not to force a view on the audience, nor to submit an answer to these concerns, but rather to provide an area for discussion.

Recently, she uses influences from the digital age, online relationships, and the digital "disinhibition effect" to explore what it is like to be a woman navigating the internet. By including direct messages and interactions verbatim (including spelling mistakes and poor grammar) she attempts to find the dark humor in cyber interactions as she believes that there is immense personal power in denying the unsolicited messages the pleasure of getting under her skin... or the pleasure of anything. Through experimenting with materials such as digital collages, she explores more into the physical insecurities that are common if not so, exacerbated by the media as well as social and gender-based expectations. Being an online topic it makes sense for the work to reflect the format in which it was researched.
