Hey U There - 2022

Quit Sexualizing Me - 2022

These experimental videos explore the idea of unsolicited sexualization online, particularly involving women doing completely normal things. The video purposely hides the area of sexualization behind over-the-top, colourful, innocent filters and stickers, while ironically bringing attention to it. It might not be clear to the audience what sexualisation is, but these video experiments aim to playfully deny the audience of sexualization.

O is For... - 2022

Described as “cool, cruel, formalistic fantasy about a woman subjected” (Birmingham Post) the Story of O heavily influences “O is for”. Taking clips from the 1975 movie to show context for O’s treatment, I’ve added various words starting with o. The female google voice highlights not only the separation from oneself and the novel, the influence of digital ebooks and the juxtaposition of emotion and the scientific tones of google. As O’s name is seldomly used, perhaps as a way to use her as an insert for any or all women, it ultimately it brings up the question of what O is for: orgy, orgasm, objectification… oesophagus.

My Dearest Emma - 2022

Inspired by the romance of Jane Austen and her ideas around gender expectations and roles, My Dearest Emma re-appropriates the language of the marriage proposals in her novel Emma. Coupled with her handwritten additions to her father’s marriage register in the Church in which he preached, the film explores how romance filled Austen’s life and yet she never said, “I do”. You can listen to my letter to Jane Austen as well extra information about Jane Austen and her house at https://janeaustens.house/subtext-historic-kitchen/

Marchioness de Sad - Video Version-  2022

This rendition of "Marchioness de Sad" has various comments I've received scroll past over the same innocent-looking selfie. The format of the video mimics the endless and almost second nature of scrolling through one's phone, almost absentmindedly while the unsolicited messages continue to flash past. You can find "Marchioness de Sad" in its Instagram form here (for best results please watch on a phone) -

Melancholia  - 2022

**TRIGGER WARNING FOR IMPLIED SEXUAL HARASSMENT**

Inspired by unsolicited online comments, Melancholia uses a female google voice to read out the increasingly violating messages, which are most often than not from men. While I am not insulted by these messages it shows an insight into the almost second nature that is the experiences of an online space. Further influenced by the Story of O, the owl motif represents knowledge and wisdom. To me, this wisdom means that I do not let the online space bleed into my real life, they are two different personas.

Venus Was Decomposing - 2022

Inspired by the final chapter of Emile Zola's "Nana", "Venus Was Decomposing" shows a slowly decomposing painting of Venus. The stop motion animation and editing reflect how Nana's beauty is slowly dissolved through the novel. I aim, with the narrative, to play with pronunciation as well as to introduce a female voice to the female death that is shown. While Nana lives a rich glamorous life, in reality not all that glitters is gold.
